An informative day dedicated to Loire Valley wines, French cuisine and Châteaux.  Easily accessible from Angers, Le Mans, Nantes, Paris and Tours by TGV train, spend a day in Saumur, once the playground of French Kings, Dukes and nobles.

Under Gérald’s professional guidance, discover all of the aspects of wine making during a privately conducted Loire wine tour, wine course and wine tasting at a reputed vineyard close to Saumur.  Discover the different Loire Valley cépages, grape varieties, the annual work involved preparing the vines and the methods applied to creating the blanc, rosé, rouge and refreshing sparkling wines.  A technical and extensive dégustation, wine tasting, will follow.  Comprehensive explanations from Gérald and newly acquired knowledge will enable you to recognise and appreciate the individual identities of each wine and note the distinctive flavours of the AOC Val de Loire wine appellations.

Elevating the wine tasting experience further and hosted by Gérald is a three course ‘gourmand lunch’ at Bistrot Les Tontons, Gérald’s bar à vin set in the historical heart of Saumur.  Traditional French cuisine is served with a selection of wines to create an enlightening food and wine pairing experience, un accord mets et vins.

Post-lunch consider visiting the stunning Château de Saumur, a ten minute walk from Bistrot Les Tontons.  From the Château grounds marvel at the spectacular view overlooking the historical town of Saumur and the vast Loire river; a fabulous photo opportunity!
